Skippers' Notes

British Waterways - Boaters Guide - select 'Gloucester and Sharpness Canal'.

Topoly's Restaurant - Saturday Evening Meal

Additional Skippers' Notes:

The lock at Sharpness is currently being refurbished, and is designated as a 'building site' (i.e. Safety at Work regulations apply), consequently no-one is allowed on the lock side (either to embark or disembark). i.e. no crew transfer until the boat has passed out of the Dock area and is on the canal (North of the high/low bridges).

Two of the bridges are remotely controlled (High Orchard carring St. Anne's Way and Netheridge) these only operate once per hour. The new large bridge at Quedgely (Hempstead Road) also only operates once per hour. Some of these bridges have a major impact on traffic, so please travel in convoy and we are not in a hurry so be prepared to wait an hour for the next bridge swing if necessary. If the convoy is too long the lights may change to RED, if this happens STOP and wait for the next bridge swing.

There is a new cafe at Saul Junction, which comes highly recommended from the BW staff. They open early enough to do breakfast, if you miss it I'm sure those that use it will tell you all about it.

Canals are supposed to be the quickest way to slow down, so take it easy and have a good time.
